Edwin Jacobs is ICT lawyer (Partner) at Time.lex.
Time.lex is a law firm, specialised in Telecommunications, IT/IP, Media and E-business/E-government - timelaw. A law firm that focuses on the creation, management and exploitation of information and technology, in all of its diverse forms.
Edwin read law at the universities of Namur (Belgium, in French, 1991), Norwich (UK, 1993) and Leuven (Belgium, in Dutch, 1994), and studied European law at the Europa-Institut in Saarbrücken (Germany, 1995). In 2003, he obtained a postgraduate degree in company management (Bedrijfskunde, EHSAL Management School, Brussels).
In 1995 he started to practice law, specialising in commercial law, intellectual property law and ICT-law. He became a company lawyer (July 2001-March 2007) and was responsible for the legal department of ISABEL, a leading service provider in e-Banking, e-Business (i.a. electronic invoicing) and e-Government.
Afterwards, he was at the forefront of his practice at the TMT-IP (Technology, Media, Telecom - Intellectual Property) department of Monard-D’Hulst in Brussels.
Within the Brussels based Institute for Company Lawyers, he founded and chaired the practice group ICT-IP-law.
Since December 2003, he is also an affiliated researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Law and ICT (ICRI, University of Leuven) and teaches a seminar on IT contracts & conflict management (since October 2009).
Edwin is an accredited mediator in civil and commercial matters, with focus on ICT and IP. Since October 2008, Edwin is also involved at the University of Antwerp as a teaching assistant for the course "negotiation and mediation".
He frequently speaks and writes about ICT-law and/or intellectual property.
He is a member of the Brussels bar and a sympathising member of the Institute for Company Lawyers.
Areas of interest are: legal management of ICT-projects, privacy, e-business, electronic contracting, outsourcing and service level agreements, intellectual property, security, electronic invoicing, copyright, trade marks, etc.
