Recognizing a critical need in Europe for seed and early stage development assistance, Barend founded Big Bang Ventures (BBV) in 2000.
Today, Big Bang Ventures has grown to Euro 40 million of funds under management, and is considered one of Europe's most promising early stage VC funds to emerge out of the dotcom collapse.
Its first fund was at the basis of Datacentertechnologies which was succesfully sold to Symantec in 2005.
In addition, BBV, based on an aspiring entrepreneur and business plan only, co-founded Clear2Pay in 2002, one of the world's fastest growing e-payment providers.
Before, Barend spent some time in the US, where he was involved as investor and co-founder in various IT startups. Barend began his career in 1995 in investment banking, as Financial Analyst for SG Cowen in Boston, focusing on the pioneering generation of internet and data-networking technology companies.
He currently is a member of the board of directors of Clear2Pay, and board observer at Travel Intelligence.
Barend holds a Master of Science degree in Economics from the University of Louvain, Belgium.
Barend was President of the Benelux Tech Tour 2006 and founded Venture Club, bringing together VC's with a passion to discover hidden gems in the Benelux countries.
